Welcome to Reigate & Banstead Borough Council – a great place to work
We are a fast developing, forward thinking and ambitious Council that, rather than cutting services, is expanding what we do.
Home to over 144,000 residents, our borough is an area mixing commercial centres with enviable and accessible green spaces, in an affluent county. It enjoys a low crime rate and low unemployment, has great schools, and while less diverse than the national average, its population is similar to that across the South East generally.
Our key towns of Banstead, Horley, Redhill and Reigate have distinct individual characteristics, whilst the borough’s proximity to Gatwick Airport presents both commercial opportunities and challenges.
The prosperity of the borough is no accident. We work hard to create and support a resilient and vibrant economy, at the same time as directly investing and facilitating investment into key regeneration programmes.
We have a clear commitment to our direction of travel, where we want to be and what we want to do, as evidenced in our new draft plan – Reigate & Banstead 2025. We have strength in our leadership, from our councillors and senior management, which is backed by the resources that are needed to deliver our ambitions.
A strong set of shared values and behaviours underpin everything that we do. We strive to make a difference, do the right thing and be bold and confident. To achieve this, we expect all of our staff to demonstrate our behaviours in how they work – to be supportive, positive, flexible and innovative.
In return we offer competitive salaries, generous leave and good employee benefits, as well as support people’s careers and professional development through training and progression opportunities.
We offer a great place to work. Our recently refurbished offices provide a high quality modern and flexible office environment which is ideal for collaborative working, meetings and socialising. This is underpinned by the use of technology, and our flexible working policy, to enable agile working from alternative locations, helping to promote a healthy work/life balance.
Our main offices at the Town Hall, located in Reigate, are easy to get to, located just a short walk from the train station and from local car parks.
Reigate has an attractive and thriving high street providing numerous places to shop, eat and drink. As well as wonderful open spaces such as Priory Park and Castle Grounds which are ideal for relaxing and keeping fit.
Our other sites – The Harlequin Theatre & Cinema in Redhill and our Earlswood Depot – are also easily accessed by road and rail, and close to some beautiful countryside.
In delivering our vision, the financial challenges facing us along with all other councils, are well known. However, our approach is to use these challenges as an opportunity to innovate, adopt a commercial approach and foster entrepreneurialism throughout the organisation.
With the removal of government grant funding, our funding model relies on finding new sources of income and investment, with an emphasis on maintaining our quality services, rather than cutting or closing facilities.
